Avi Stadler: Making Esquire a Rewarding Place to Work

Posted: March 1, 2019

I am my company’s lawyer—but I’m so much more than that. I’m also in charge of human resources, recruiting, internal compliance, project management, facilities, and real estate. In all these roles that I play, I am dedicated to making Esquire a rewarding and enriching place for our employees to work. I am incredibly lucky to work with a talented group of professionals who have the same focus.

I spend my days focused on ensuring that Esquire complies with all applicable laws and regulations and that we live up to our mission: “To preserve and protect the sanctity of the record to ensure equal access to justice for all.”

I am proud to announce a year of record success for Esquire in 2018. Using a consistent approach to problems, Esquire met and exceeded its financial targets and laid the foundation for unprecedented growth. As the new year begins, I would like to reflect on this success.

Investing in Our People

Esquire has taken a thoughtful and measured approach to ensure that it can meet its financial and organizational goals. To make this possible, we needed to invest in recruiting and retaining the best talent in the industry. We began by implementing a professional and consistent recruiting approach that has successfully helped Esquire rebrand itself in the talent marketplace and attract top talent. From there, we’ve improved upon our state-of-the-art learning management program, robust review process, professional-grade training, and formalized goal-setting process.

We’ve created a defined job structure with a clear path to promotion. Our human resources team works directly with every department to ensure that Esquire hears our employees’ voices, considers feedback, and implements programs to ensure that our employees have the tools necessary to succeed and grow in their careers.

I am proud to report that Esquire’s employee retention is at the highest level in company history, and consequently, turnover is at an all-time low. Moreover, we’re promoting more employees than ever before, and these employees are thriving in their new roles.

Standard Approach to Company Initiatives

In addition, our talented project management team has standardized Esquire’s approach to company initiatives and has brought accountability to the company. From retooling our production process to the semi-annual NetSuite upgrades to the development of new products to the revamping of our expense management processes, our project management team ensures successful project completion. They confirm that company goals are “SMART”: specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound —and they hold us accountable to achieving those goals.

Our real estate and facilities team also made great strides in 2018 standardizing the client experience. Every client deserves—and receives—the same world-class experience at Esquire. Our real estate and facilities team created a consistent approach to the look, layout, and functionality of our offices throughout the country. By modernizing our approach and updating offices, we were able to reduce costs and consistently provide an in-office experience for our clients and employees.

Investing in the Future of the Court Reporting Industry

In 2019, Esquire is tackling the court reporter shortage plaguing the industry. My team will work together with National and Field Operations to create a world-class, professional court reporter recruiting program. Throughout the past year, Esquire worked hard to transform our relationship with the court reporting community, opening doors and dialogue with state and national organizations, court reporting schools, and individual reporters. This collaborative effort is an exciting opportunity to innovate and set up the industry for lasting success. I am proud to be part of the team that will take this initiative to the next level.

Set the Foundation for Future Success

Esquire is primed for an amazing 2019. Our dedicated human resources, recruiting, internal compliance, project management, and real estate and facilities teams are committed to ensuring that Esquire meets its lofty financial goals while also striving to make Esquire’s vision a reality: “Empowering dedicated professionals to act with integrity, deliver excellence, and earn clients for life.” Our goal, as always, will be to continue to make Esquire a great place to work while serving the high cause of ensuring our clients have access to the justice system.
